DENTUR - the Turkish Marine Industry Association - was founded on 14 February 2000 in Istanbul. DENTUR was founded by the Turkish manufacturers, importers, retailers and distributors of sailboats, motor boats, marine engines, marine equipment and accessories as well as service providers to the sector. As of February 2006, the number of members has reached 214 from various parts of the country.
The aims of this Association are: - to gather the members of the sector in an organization; - to outline the problems of the recreational boating industry and the marine tourism sector; to contact and exchange information with the state offices in order to solve these problems; - to set forth the standards for the sector members and assist them achieve these standards; - to overcome obstacles of trade hindering the development of the marine market in Turkey and the relevant international trade; - to promote amateur seamanship, to develop the love of the sea among the people of our country and to help spread this love to the whole of the country; - to communicate this love to younger generations.
From the date of its foundation, DENTUR has been widening its scope and is now regarded as a strong and able NGO that can negotiate with state officials and provide solutions to problems faced by the marine sector. DENTUR has also taken an active part in the formation of five regional boat and yacht builders' associations in various parts of the country and finally achieved the formation of YATEF, Yacht and Boat Industries Federation in December 2004, in which it is playing a leading role www.yatef.org.tr
DENTUR has been supporting both the main national boat show, namely the Istanbul International Boatshow, and also the smaller regional shows organized on various parts of the Turkish coast. DENTUR's vision is that our country will reach its well deserved place in marine tourism and the pleasure boat industry and will also make the Turkish people highly aware of the marine potentials surrounding them.
DENTUR also aims to have the Turkish recreational boat industry and the related services reach top international standards. It also aims to conserve the coasts and seas of our country which are an exceptional heritage to our coming generations, in the best effective, efficient and environment-conscious ways.
