AIMEX joins ICOMIA Asia Project as founding sponsor
05 December 2016
Spearheaded by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), the ICOMIA ASIA PROJECT is an initiative to identify and understand obstacles to growth in Asia (such as restriction on the permits and approvals for building marinas, duties and taxes and cross border immigration issues) by working with national and local industry and authorities in order to create recommendations on how to develop a friendly recreational boating environment in the region.
Subject to the creation of an efficient funding mechanism, Phase One of the Project will focus on the following nine countries: Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Without being exhaustive, the Phase One Report will detail, where possible, the following information for each of the countries: national statistics, industry SWOT analysis, recreational marine infrastructure, manufacture, equipment, importers and dealers, repair facilities, marinas, boating clubs and mooring facilities, barriers to trade such as taxation and import/export requirements as well as registration and regulations.
Phase One has attracted several high profile Sponsors so far:
- Australian International Marine Export Group
- AkzoNobel | SMU Specialty Coatings
- Groupe Bénéteau
- Camper & Nicholsons Marinas
- Korea International Boat Show
- Mercury Marine
- Simpson Marine
- Singapore Boating Industry Association
Sponsors not only receive this invaluable research for free, but they have the opportunity to comment in advance on deliverables as each country’s individual report is drafted, right-up to the final Report’s industry-wide publication and sale in 2017; allowing Sponsors to obtain added value for their market sector. Research can then be tailored to benefit a Sponsor’s current and future business activities as the Report will provide insights and recommendations - not just statistics.
“The ICOMIA Asia Project is the first of its kind in the region. A similar report commissioned on an individual basis would cost significantly more and would not include the resources, expertise and support an international trade association like ICOMIA can provide” says Udo Kleinitz, ICOMIA Secretary General. “This is a collective effort with key industry players that will strengthen market insight in the region and benefit businesses operating in the international recreational marine industry”.
