ICOMIA publishes Technical Note on implications of new EU Trailer regulations

Monday, November 10, 2008

If you import/export, manufacture or sell boat trailers you need to be aware that new Regulations are coming into force in 2009 that will require all trailers in Europe to be type approved. The European wide type approval scheme for cars was introduced in the 1970s. Directive 70/156/EEC will be repealed with effect from 29 April 2009 and replaced by 2007/46/EC. This will extend the scope of European wide type approval from just cars to lorries, minibuses, buses and coaches, and trailers starting with voluntary compliance on 29 April 2009 and becomes mandatory on 29 Oct 2012
